Kate Bush - Hounds of Love.
Can’t stop listening to her these days. She’s such a babe and I love her steez in this video- big loose bun, nerd glasses, red lips. She wrote and produced this song and directed the video.
The first time I heard this song I was with Spoon. Spoon was the baker at this cafe I worked at. She was a beautiful and intimidating. One morning she handed me a basket of raspberry scones and said she had a girl crush on me. That night, we drank a couple bottles of wine and listened to Kate Bush. She said something funny and I laughed too loudly, like I always do, and covered my mouth. She said “Don’t do that. Don’t cover your mouth. You’re beautiful, why do you want to cover yourself up.” As a totally insecure and self-aware 20 year old that hit me like a ton of bricks. I don’t think anyone other than my parents had ever said I was pretty before, let alone beautiful. When Hounds of Love came on she closed her eyes and quietly sang along, and we just sat there, drunk, in the dark, and it was one of the clearest, most honest moments I’ve had with another person.
I drove home in the snow and woke up to one of the worst hangovers of my life.
Spoon introduced me to Jim, Zoe’s dad. He was sleeping on her couch. That’s Jim on the left and Spoon in the middle, at her wedding.
